What do enjoy spending your time doing?
Gary:I enjoy reading nonfiction (primarily Christian-authored books), although a fiction book I’m trying to get into is Emma by Jane Austen. I also enjoy making handmade greeting cards and doing my own art pieces.

Mary: I enjoy reading and stitching, working with fiber arts and creative embroidery. I also enjoy making collages with interesting papers and embellishments.

What are people surprised to learn about you?
Gary: That I worked as a city planner for thirty years for the Cleveland City Planning Commission during the city’s redevelopment heyday. I was privileged to see up close major development projects’ designs and the approval process by the city.

Mary: That I taught in public and private schools for five years. I enjoyed the opportunity to encourage 6 to 8th graders to make wise choices.

When was a time that serving others made an impact on your life?
Gary: I volunteered with the city of Lakewood Office on Aging serving as a friendly visitor to the elderly and later as reader to a remarkable blind gentleman. My volunteering experiences helped begin to get my mind off of me and humble me.

Mary: My whole teaching experience – the classes throughout the years, mainly first grade, but also third, fifth, seventh, and eighth grades. I pray that some remember me as the teacher that made a difference in their lives.
