Pray for a heart that desires to give the first portion to the Lord

When the Bible talks about giving, it does so in a unique way. Often we think about giving through the lens of giving what we have left over. All throughout scripture God challenges this thought process and instead asks his people to give out of the “first fruits.” To give the best to the Lord instead of giving the leftovers. God desires that we would see him as “Jehovah-jireh” or the Lord who provides. Giving of firstfruits is a physical act of acknowledging God as the ultimate provider. We get to give the best of what we have been given back to him in gratitude.

Exodus 23:19

“As you harvest your crops, bring the very best of the first harvest to the house of the Lord your God. “You must not cook a young goat in its mother’s milk.

Leviticus 2:12
You may add yeast and honey to an offering of the first crops of your harvest, but these must never be offered on the altar as a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
