10 Songs Your Friends are Listening to Right Now

We asked some of our Grace family to share songs they have been enjoying lately. Before we jump into what they are listening to and why, let’s talk about why God cares about songs.

Songs have a unique and innate way of interacting with the human spirit. Have you ever noticed your mood change based on your background noise? Our playlists matter.

The Bible teaches us: “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts” (Colossians 3:16). God knows that the best way to communicate important things in a way that they penetrate our hearts is through song. So, he instructs us to sing about his son! Pretty cool, huh?

1. Awake my Soul (Hillsong Worship)

“Songs that have been inspiring me right now are ones that remind me of how faithful and big God is. I love this song because it is talking I guess personally to my soul or a person soul and saying to remember the power of God and I think that’s where faith a lot of times is found- when it seems like the odds are unbeatable and stacked against us… That’s when we should lean into truth and remember God’s faithfulness – I personally sing myself to remind myself of these things. It’s a very personal/emotional experience.” -C.M

“I love this song because it reminds me that the one who is in control of all things is with me, will never leave me, and will fight for me.” -S.B.

3. Good and Loved (Travis Greene & Steffany Gretzinger)

“One of the songs that has really been speaking to me is ‘Good and loves”. It’s sung from God’s perspective and has been really encouraging me about how present he is and that he is definitely our Lord and personal God.” -M.V.

“We have been playing and singing Way Maker a lot during this time, as it has helped us remember, ‘even when I can’t see him, he’s working; even when I can’t feel him, he’s working; he never stops working.’ And he does end up showing up in unexpected ways if we are looking for him!” – S.H.

8. Run to the Father (Cody Carnes)

“I often need reminded that I need God, and it’s a good thing. I can get discouraged that I can’t pull everything off on my own, but this song helps me remember that God is my friend and also my foundation. I can rest and feel secure when I trust him over myself because he has my best interest in mind and has power in this world that I don’t have. Finding out you aren’t enough is actually not devastating when you know that you have a God who is enough.” – L.M.

9. Highs and Lows (Hillsong Young & Free)

“This song has stuck with me since I heard it because of the line, he’s with us in the, ‘highs and lows…’ he’s ‘with me either way it goes.’ That is a good reminder for me!” – K.H

“Through all of the challenges that we are facing as a culture and a community right now, I need reminded of who God is more than ever. This song does an awesome job of that! – J.L
